“Why I photograph” is a collection of snapshots that represent the very best parts about being a photographer to me. Documenting my life has allowed me to be more present, and remembering what something felt like has helped me hold onto my memories while simultaneously letting them go. Everything still surprises and informs me. Memories start out sharp and in focus, but all too soon they are blurry and you are just left with motion. Pivotal moments can be very loud, but oftentimes they are subdued, quiet and intimate. Sometimes situations aren’t beautiful, yet you find yourself more thankful for the beauty of just being there at all. These photos are a visual love letter to the moments and the people who have disarmed, altered, and inspired me. It is also a love letter to photography itself. Making art for someone connects me to them. Making art of someone makes them apart of me forever. Maybe I am just getting older, but thats my experience.
